Tel: 075-213-6688      Shin-Puh-Kan is a new type of commercial and information center at Sanjo-Karasuma, Kyoto. The European-style building of Shin-Puh-Kan was originally built in 1926 as a telephone switch center designed by Rechard George Rogers, and its traditional facade remained after a big renovation by NTT in 2001. Shin-Puh-Kan has a huge courtyard surrounded by a 3-story building with 30 boutiques and restaurants. In the middle of the courtyard, there is an outside theater called Re-Que Hall. Too large to call it "just a courtyard"---there we can find the experimental concept of Shin-Puh-Kan as the "information center". Usually people come to shop and take a rest in the courtyard with their children or dogs, but once the Re-Que Hall is set for some music events, you will know the potential of the space ; it will change into an open air concert hall which can accomodate1,500 people. One of the most popular events in Re-Que Hall is the Salsa Party by DJ Rodrigo. It is held twice a year, and every time various performance teams gather from all over Japan. It is an outside event, with many people wakling by and watching it, interested in salsa and coming to take a lesson. The event contributes to making salsa popular in Japan. Come and join us! No criteria for participation as a performer. The concept is "enjoy yourself." Let's enjoy salsa in Kyoto in the "Golden Week" (a series of national holidays in late April and early May) . |
